Write with World

Photobucket
I know learning to write is very important for our children to learn & it is easier to get them to write when it is about something they enjoy. My girls naturally like to write & Write with World has inspired them to write more & to notice more details around them to include in their writing.
Write with WORLD is a brand new writing curriculum from the publisher's of God's World News and World Magazine. The Old Schoolhouse Crew received year one of this 2 year program recommended for middle-school students.

Write with WORLD was developed by education and media professionals so you can teach writing with confidence. This curriculum will inspire and train your students to become proficient communicators who can exceed educational requirements and navigate today's growing media and conflicting worldviews.

Write with WORLD exposes students to:
  • reading that develops discernment
  • contemporary subjects and professional guidance to pique interest
  • flexible exercises to build confidence and skill for using today's new media
  • a thoughtful and meaningful Christian worldview
Year one consists of a teacher and student book. The student textbook consists of 16 key lessons divided into 4 units. They will learn concepts of comparative and critical reading, writing fundamentals, narratives, reporting, reviewing, critique and opinion. The teacher handbook explains the objectives, methodology, and evaluation for each unit. The complete student book is included in the teacher book along with guidance and teaching helps. The textbook in non-consumable and each student will need a notebook to record their work.
  • Unit 1 starts out with images and helps the child to carefully read them. They will learn to explain why they like the image, how it works, and if it persuades them to purchase the item.
  • Unit 2 uses the same process in unit 1 but this time with sentences. The student will learn the importance of well-defined subject and a strong action verb. Students should be able to explain why one sentence is better than another by the time they are done with this section.
  • Unit 3 helps your student to become better readers of paragraphs and learn to evaluate how one paragraph is better than another.
  • Unit 4 teaches the student why it is important to have a strong sentence & paragraph. They will also learn that an essay is full of enough details to tell a story just like the images they studied in unit 1.
Delaney and Amber are in the 5th & 6th grades and they have both been using Write with World. We are at the end of unit 1 and they absolutely love it! They both love to write so some days they have begged to do another lesson in the book. They each had a journal to write in & the pictures they found to write about were cut out and taped inside their notebook. There are vocabulary words throughout the text that are in bold print so we added those to the back of our journal along with the definitions, synonyms, & antonyms.

The teacher's manual contains the complete text that is in the student book. This worked wonderful for us. I could read & explain what we were going to do & the girls could sit together and follow along. It made it very easy to discuss the pictures that we were describing. Another great thing is the World Wisdom section. Here is where a writers, editors, photojournalist, and publishers will give the student tips or suggestions on things they do to help them in their writing.

Write with World curriculum will be ready to ship summer 2012, year one and two are $95.00 each or $165.00 if purchased together. Lesson one can be viewed here.

Write with WORLD will teach your students to write with purpose while being connected to writing professionals. The timely and thoughtful assignments will encourage your student to discuss ideas and language with parents/teachers.
