My Memories Suite Review & Giveaway

I love to scrapbook!!
If you have been following my blog for very long you might have noticed my post about my schoolroom/scrapbook room. I just received My Memories Suite which is a digital scrapbook program. It was very easy to use, the hardest part is deciding which layout to use with what pictures. Of course I have that problem when I use paper and glue. I am definitely not giving up my regular scrapbooking but this program will work great when I want to create something but I don't have time to get everything out. I can actually scrapbook now anytime & anywhere right on my laptop. I'm thinking I can digital scrapbook in the car at soccer practice when it is freezing outside. I have gotten a lot of my friends into scrapbooking but I have a few that just don't like paper & glue but they are great on the computer and editing their pictures. I can't wait to tell them about this software.......they will love it!!
Here are some pages I created of our family pictures.
My Memories Suite contains a lot of paper, kits, and templates with more available on their website, some of them are even free. The software can be purchased and downloaded directly from the My Memories website for $39.97. And I have a PROMOTIONAL CODE for you to receive $10.00 off the software and $10.00 off your purchase at the My Memories store. Use the code STMMMS62703 and then share it with your friends.

If you feel intimidated about using the program there is plenty of help to get you started. My Memories has a blog for inspiration, tutorials, and a forum to answer questions. If you are a visual person you can visit My Memories on You Tube.
Giveaway!!!
I also have some great news for you. One of my lucky readers will win the My Memories Suite. I will be drawing a winner on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at noon.

Rebecca St. James' "What Is He Thinking??" Review & Giveaway

In WHAT IS HE THINKING??, Rebecca interviews a range of men from high-profile types to the guys next door, men that every woman can relate to. Although the interviews focus on single guys ages 20-35, Rebecca also includes words of wisdom from older mentors she respects who have been successfully married for years, people like her dad, life coach, and pastor.

The men share their thoughts on topics like how women can respect themselves and the men in their lives, modesty, purity, taking it slow, friendship, letting guys lead, and more. This book gives them the floor to say what they would really like women to know.

The men respond candidly to questions such as:

  • What is the most attractive quality to you in a woman?
  • Is modesty truly attractive?
  • Is neediness a turn-off?
  • What do you find beautiful?
  • How can we be dependent on God for our identity, not on you?
  • How can we help you with boundaries physically?

Rebecca also discusses her own dating life, speaking openly about the single life, her struggle with loneliness, and her hope for the future. She challenges women to see the men in their lives as brothers in Christ and to trust God with their dating lives.

I wanted to read Rebecca's book not because I need to know what the guys are thinking....I already have my guy. But I wanted to read it because I have 4 daughters. One of which is old enough to get married but has chosen to enjoy her single life for awhile. I also wanted to read this book because I wanted to see the guys side of dating and marriage. I know my own,  my girl friends and everything I have read on relationships and dating have been from women. I think it is good for our daughters to see what thoughts young men have. They do dwell on other things than the physical act of a relationship. I was very refreshing to read that guys want girls to dress modestly and maintain purity in their relationships.

Theo Cartoon Review & Giveaway

One thing my kids like to do is sit down & watch a cartoon, but we are very selective in what we let our them watch. There are so many unwholesome things can be introduced into our homes in the form of entertainment or just a lot of time wasted on them. So I was eager to watch the new Theo cartoon.

We just watched this cute little cartoon about a man who teaches God's word with the help of his 2 mice friends Belfry and Luther. The DVD contained 2 short cartoons.
  • Faith ~ Theo tells us about how some of God's people in the bible had faith in what God told them and that we can have faith in God today.
  • Good News ~ This episode teaches about how sin entered the world & that we have a way to be saved.
Theo has no denominational affiliation. They offer a statement of faith on their website, which I do not totally agree with. As with everything my children watch I sit with them and explain to them why we believe what we do.

Mike Joens has produced and directed scores of animated commercials for toy companies such as Milton Bradley, Hasbro, Kenner, McDonalds's and Playskool. In addition to commercial work, he produced and directed the animation segments for the award-winning video series "McGee and Me," as well as the animated "Adventures in Odyssey" for focus on the Family. After a waiting period of over 30 years, God opened the doors to Joens for the production of "Theo Presents." At last, the dream of a cartoonist, called to teach the Word has come true. It is Mike's hope that God will use Theo to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Children and adults in every country of the world!

For every Theo DVD purchased, Whitestone Media and Child Evangelism Fellowship® will send a child in need their very own copy of Theo.

You can log onto TheoPresents.com after making your own purchase, and select the region of the world you'd like another copy of Theo to be sent.

Ginny Owens Review & Giveaway

Ginny Owens has a new CD out called Get In, I'm Driving. Not only is this a new album for her but it is also a new sound. I have really enjoyed her music, they lyrics are very heart felt and encouraging.

A three-time Dove Award winner, including the Gospel Music Association’s 2000 New Artist of the Year recipient, and multiple ASCAP Award winner, Ginny Owens has sold nearly one million albums. A top performer on the Christian radio charts with hits like “If You Want Me To,” “Free” and “I Wanna Be Moved,” among others, Owens’ music has impacted mainstream audiences at Lilith Fair, the Sundance Film Festival and the White House. Her music has received widespread film and television placement, including songs on the popular WB series’ “Roswell” and “Felicity.” Owens was featured on national television, including NBC’s “Today” and CNN, for her contribution to help rebuild New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.

Born and raised in Jackson, Miss., Owens was discovering melodies on the piano almost before she could complete a sentence. Songs began to emerge from her fingers as the vision began to leave her eyes and by the age of three. A degenerative eye condition left Owens completely blind. Despite her physical challenge, Owens pursued a music career. Songs provide a window into a world Owens can’t see and an outlet for her to express her thoughts and dreams. Owens’ unique musical style and inspirational lyrics continue to appeal to Christian and mainstream audiences alike.

In 2005 Owens launched The Fingerprint Initiative, a hands-on, non-profit organization designed to “bring hope to the world, one project and one touch at a time.” The organization has partnered with and raised money for groups such as Compassion International, International Justice Mission and Habitat for Humanity.

Jeremy Riddle ~~ "Furious" Review & Giveaway

Vineyard Worship artist and worship leader Jeremy Riddle has announced the release of his new studio album titled, Furious. Riddle began work on the 12 track album a year ago with Dove Award winning producer Ed Cash (Chris Tomlin, Matthew West, David Crowder Band) at the helm. The project follows Prepare the Way: Live, an album recorded in front of a live audience in Corpus Christi, TX, earlier this year from Vineyard.

Riddle describes Furious saying, "Its hard to come up with words that depict the magnitude of Christ's love - the depth and width of it. Furious doesn't work outside of the context of love; we tend to translate the word as angry, but I see it as a super-powerful force; stronger, deeper, broader than our vocabulary can fully describe."

After touring for four years Jeremy decided to come on staff as worship community pastor at Bethel Church in Redding, CA. He facilitates a worship community of over 200 people within the church.

"These songs are a reflection of being part of something bigger than just me," Jeremy says. "Through some significant growth in understanding and living out humility from a very independent place, I've shifted into a place where I can't even claim this record is completely inspired by me. There are so many elements of the album that could never have flowed from me had I not been connected to people walking out life with me."

We have really been enjoying this album. Jeremy's music is very soothing to the soul.

~~AIMS~~
Activities
Integrating
Math and
Science

AIMS Educational Foundation provides hand-on Math and Science curriculum with manipulatives and labs for grades K-9. The TOS Crew was offered 5 different titles from their catalog. We received the Earth Book plus a CD that is recommended for grade 6-9, and can be purchased for $49.95.

I used the book mainly with Amber, grade 6 & Delaney, grade 5. Alaina joined us and she loved the mini books. There is so much information in this book but it is taught in such a way that it was easier for my girls to remember. The very first lesson was Accounting for Water. We went to South Carolina last week and visited the ocean and some swamps. Amber had to make sure everyone knew the percentage of water on the earth and how much is salt water & fresh. The Teacher pages are great for homeschool families. Every thing you need to know, prepare and discuss is listed there.

The Earth Book is divided into 4 sections: Hydrosphere, Geosphere, Atmosphere, and Their Interactions. There are 481 pages in the book with all the worksheets included on the CD for easy printing. The topics within each section are presented in the same way throughout the book. The Teacher page tells you exactly what to do.
    Topic
    Key Question
    Learning Goals
    Guiding Documents
    Math (category applied during activity)
    Science (category applied during activity)
    Integrated Process
    Materials Needed
    Background Information
    Management
    Procedure
    Connecting Learning

A copy of the student pages are after the teachers. Some of the activities are worksheets, timelines, event cards, graphs, maps, labs, and mini books.

AIMS Educational Foundation started in 1981 when 80 teachers came together because they wanted to give students a strong hands-on foundation in math and science. Teachers loved the first AIMS activity book and students learned more. They are a non-profit organization because they believe in educating the student instead of making money. The foundation was founded by Dr. Arthur Wiebe and is located on the campus of Fresno Pacific University

The Crew was offered 6 different Math and Science titles for grades K-9. Sail over to the Crew blog to read reviews all 6 products.

Time 4 Learning

Last year we reviewed Time 4 Learning and Amber has asked me off and on all year if she could continue her subscription. When I found out that the TOS Crew was offered Time 4 Learning again this year Amber was so excited.

The first day she logged on to Social Studies and really enjoyed the lesson The Olmec Civilization. She finished the whole section in one day and did a great job on her clay sculpture. She made the clay by herself exactly like the directions said and copied her sculpture from the picture.
I think she did a great job!!

I used Time 4 Learning with Amber (10), Delaney (9), and Alaina (6). Amber and Alaina loved the program and would ask to complete more each time they logged in. They knew exactly what they needed to complete and had no trouble finding where they needed to be the next time. As with some curriculum it is not for everyone. Delaney doesn't like sitting in front of the computer for long periods of time, she enjoyed the work that she completed while working on Time 4 Learning, but she didn't want to compete more than I asked her to.

Time 4 Learning is an online educational program for PreK-8 grades. It's great for summer time, after school or for homeschool. Each child has their own login to complete their work. Once they log in they can choose which subject they would like to complete. Then they will choose their lesson. The icons for each lesson go in order from left to right. This makes it very easy for the child to log in and know exactly where they left off.

As the teacher or parent you have access to all the lessons and can assign ones that you would like your child to complete.
The progress report can be viewed for each child. It is very easy to see the grade because they are color coded.

If you sign your child in a grade level and realize it is too hard or too easy they can switch back and forth from the grade below or above the current level. Time 4 Learning has a great getting started guide to help you get the most out of their program.

Time 4 Learning is available at a montly fee of $19.95 and $14.95 for each additional student. They offer a 14 day money back gaurantee and you may cancel at anytime. The curriculum for each grade level is available to help you decide where to place your child. Demos are available for different grade levels.

Sail over to the TOS Crew Blog to read other Time 4 Learning reviews.

Wise Alec: Nature Nuts

Photobucket

We have another new game, this one is a trivia game about nature. Wise Alec: Nature Nuts Travel Game & Expansion Pack is recommended for 2 or more players age 8 and up. It can be used as a travel game or with Wise Alec Family Trivia Game. The retail price is $14.99 and is available online and in some stores.

I played this game with all three of my girls ages 6, 9, & 10. There are a good mix of questions the girls were excited to get the right answer and the ones the didn't know opened up some new discussions. Alaina had the most trouble so we gave her hints. There is Animal, Earth, Plants, & Wise Alec cards, My girls always wanted to roll the a red to get an animal card or the Wise Alec card. They like the Animal cards because they could answer more of those & they liked the Wise Alec cards because they are tongue twister, action, and brain teasers. In the car we didn't use the dice we just alternated the cards that were read.
Nature Nuts Open box

The packaging is great, the magnetic strip keeps it closed and the top flips open. The rules are printed right onto the box and a clear plastic cover holds the cards in place. The box is only about an inch thick so it slides in the side pocket of my laptop bag for easy packing in the car.
